ShaoDow (pronounced Sha-ow-dough) is the very definition of a DiY Artist. At age 18 he travelled alone to China in order to learn Shaolin Kung Fu.
It was there that he discovered a true love for the art of music and lyricism. This love grew with him throughout his time in university. Graduating with a Law Degree he made the bold, albeit risky decision to become a full time rapper and music business entrepreneur.
Unwilling to wait for the industry to ‘discover’ him ShaoDow travels the entire UK on a daily basis selling his CDs, performing, promoting his music and turning DiY Gang Entertainment (his self run label) into a business most small record labels would envy.
Blessed with the Shaolin drive for success, ShaoDow has appeared in almost every major city from Bournemouth to Scotland. He has sold over 11,000 copies of his CD’s on his own, just by talking to people, organically built the DiY Gang (his formidable fan base), accumulated over 400,000 total views on YouTube and was named Independent Artist of the year in the Music Eyz 2012 Awards.
His music is as different as his journey, a multi-genre artist, ShaoDow is known for his intelligent, witty, often razor sharp lyricism mixed with hard hitting, bass driven, commercial sounding beats. His ability to rap on nearly any genre including; Hip-Hop, Dubstep, Rock, Grime, House and Jazz has helped him gain support and attention from Rap fans, Rock lovers and even people who have had no previous interest in the genre.
Constantly striving for success, Shao has appeared on Tim Westwood’s radio show, had a song named 4th in Oxford’s top twenty list (after Radiohead in 3rd place), opened for the most successful independent rapper in the world ‘Tech N9ne’ at his first ever London show, successfully completed the self run ‘Black and Purple’ UK tour and self-released 4 Singles, 1 EPs, 2 Mixtapes and 1 Album
His latest album ‘Cut The BullSpit’ really demonstrated Shao’s power as a truly independent artist. Within the first week the self released, self funded album had reached Number 25 in the iTunes Hip Hop Charts.
Since then, ShaoDow has received more support and recognition with an interview in The Independent Newspaper, a glowing cosign from DJ Semtex (Radio 1xtra), playlistings on BBC 1xtra, two of his music videos on Channel AKA and a short tour in Thailand and Cambodia.
When it comes to live performances, ShaoDow has supported the likes of Chase & Status, Skepta, Chipmunk, Devlin, Akala, Giggs and was personally asked by Wiley to perform at the Manchester leg of his tour as well as at The O2 for Eskimo Dance.
A professional and talented live artist, he has headlined the O2 Academy Oxford, upstaged headliners at Rock and Jazz nights, packed out tents at festivals and toured some of the biggest clubs the UK has to offer. With an unrivalled, high energy stage show and a bit of live Kung Fu ShaoDow is definitely not one to miss.
For 2013 ShaoDow will be focusing on the release of his second full album ‘Kung Fu Hustle’ as well planning and embarking on ‘The Blue and Purple Tour 2013′ his biggest tour to date.
An independent artist with an unstoppable drive and passion for his art. Ultimately, ShaoDow is proof of what you can achieve if you’re willing to get up, get out and Do It Yourself.
